About Us

Canada’s history is rich with hunting and trapping. Whether you are hunting moose in Newfoundland, trapping beaver in Ontario, or scaling a mounting for a bighorn in British Columbia, the opportunities in Canada’s wilderness are almost endless.

The attacks against the outdoor heritage community in Canada have been relentless, with no indication of stopping. This leads to a need for a focused collaboration to advocate as a joint voice for the millions of outdoor enthusiasts across Canada, and to protect and enhance wildlife, habitat, hunting, trapping and our way of life.

Our Principles

  • Develop, in a loose consortium, process/structure with objectives and agenda

  • Build trust and respect among partner organizations

  • Be a potent force advocating for conservation, hunting, trapping, and natural resource stewardship and enhancement

  • Enhance public understanding of the ecological, social and economic contributions of hunting and trapping to help counteract efforts to ban or restrict outdoor activities

  • Positions are taken by partner organizations, not in the name of CWCP

  • Focus on commonalities and principles, including:

    • Habitat

    • Wildlife populations

    • Hunting and trapping

    • Scientific management of wildlife and habitat

    • North American Model of Wildlife Conservation

  • Work together where we agree:

    • Agree to disagree and respect differences

    • Extol and recognize accomplishments of partner organizations

    • Coordinate efforts on issues

  • Issue leaders emerge and coordinate communication between partner organizations

Rules of Engagement

  • Differences of opinion and position are respected

  • No pressure will be asserted on any organizations to conform

  • Each partner organization retains its organizational autonomy

  • A common objective (or more than one) is identified

  • Rules are agreed upon to channel activities and stick to main objective(s)

  • An individual organization leads each advocacy effort, and holds partner organizations to the rules of engagement
